WAIPAHU, HI (February 14, 2013) – The Hawai'i Pacific Baseball team (4-2) could not overcome seven errors as they lost to visiting Northwest Nazarene (4-1) by a 10-3 score. The highlight of the night for Sea Warrior fans was
Kale Sumner's home run to left center field, his first of the year.
The Sea Warriors played the Crusaders evenly for most of the game, save the third and seventh innings. Both teams each scored a run in the first, third, and sixth innings. However, NNU would strike for two runs in the third, and then five in the sixth to propel it to victory.
It wasn't a case of bad pitching, as eight of the ten runs surrendered by HPU pitchers were unearned. It was the inability to field that cost HPU, six different Sea Warriors committed errors. It was all types of miscues, dropped fly balls, booted groundballs and wild throws. Further complicating matters, HPU's pitchers walked eight batters and hit another with a pitch.
Sumner was the only Sea Warrior with a multi-hit game; he just missed his second homer in the 8th inning, pulling in with a double.
Lanan Rice-Kashima picked up an RBI in his season debut as
Chad Bolibol doubled home his 11th RBI of the season.
Starter
Michael Murray was given the loss, but only gave up one earned run in six innings of work.
Pulama Silva looked good in relief with two scoreless innings.
HPU and NNU will play a doubleheader tomorrow at Hans L'Orange Park starting at 4:00 PM.
