HONOLULU, HI (June 3, 2013) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has released its Division II All-America Team and Hawai'i Pacific senior
Kale Sumner made the third team as a first baseman.
This award is the latest in a litany of honors after an outstanding 2013 season. Last week, the Kailua product was chosen as an honorable mention on the Daktronics All-American Team. He was also selected as all-region by three different organizations in addition to being named all-conference at first and third base.
Sumner, one of HPU's finest players in program history, had a monster senior season. He hit .386, with 41 runs, 21 doubles, three triples, four home runs, 42 walks and 51 runs batted in. He won the PacWest batting title, and was also the league leader in on-base percentage (.509), doubles, hits (66) and walks. He was also in the mix for PacWest supremacy is several other categories. He finished one RBI behind league leading teammate
Marvin Campbell, was 3rd in the league in slugging percentage (.614), 3rd in total bases (105), 3rd in sac flies (4), 4th in triples, and 6th in runs.
Sumner will now wait to see if he will get a call during Major League Baseball's First Year Player Draft on June 6th through 8th. Two former Sea Warriors were drafted in recent years,
Blake Amaral in 2012 and Kaimi Mead in 2008.
