Sharks Sweep Saturday Doubleheader, Split Series with Azusa Pacific

WAIPAHU, Hawai'i — Hawai'i Pacific closed out its weekend series against Azusa Pacific with a doubleheader sweep Saturday, defeating the Cougars 8–1 and 10–2 at Hans L'Orange Park to split the four-game series.

The Sharks used timely hitting and strong pitching in both games to secure the pair of wins.

In the opener, HPU jumped on the Cougars early with four runs in the first inning. Kan Taguchi reached base and later scored, while Owen Wessel delivered a two-RBI single to help the Sharks take the early lead.

Noah Hata added to the advantage in the second inning with a solo home run to right field. Hawai'i Pacific continued to apply pressure in the fifth inning, scoring two runs on wild pitches before adding another in the sixth when Blake Helsper reached on an error that allowed Tyler Arnold to score.

Valor Castroll earned the win for the Sharks, tossing four innings while allowing just one run on three hits. Jett Ah Sam and Charlie Dohemann combined to close out the game as HPU limited Azusa Pacific to four hits in the 8–1 victory.

The Sharks carried that momentum into game two, scoring two runs in the first inning before breaking the game open with a four-run third.

Tyler Arnold led the offensive effort, finishing with four hits and five RBIs, including two doubles. Christian Perez added two hits and three RBIs, while Taydem Hashimoto contributed two hits and two RBIs. Noah Hata also had a strong performance at the top of the lineup, collecting two hits and scoring three runs.

Jayden Gabrillo earned the win on the mound in the second game, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. The Sharks' pitching staff held Azusa Pacific to only two hits in the 10–2 victory.

With the doubleheader sweep, Hawai'i Pacific improves to 10–11 overall after splitting the four-game series with Azusa Pacific.
