KANEOHE, HI (September 2, 2013)— The Hawai'i Pacific Men's Soccer Team earned a 3-0 victory against Santa Rosa Junior College in an exhibition match at Atherton Field on Sunday.
Alejandro Porras scored a goal and added an assist in the first half for the Sea Warriors in their final preseason matchup.
Porras started where he left off in 2012 as an all-region performer by scoring on a free kick in the 17th minute during a driving rain.
Just eight minutes later, center-back
Marius Stensby picked up a loose ball and ripped a left footed shot past the Santa Rosa keeper to make it 2-0.
Porras was in on the action again in the 45th minute finding an open
Felipe Silva who scored the Sea Warriors third goal of the half with just five seconds remaining on the clock.
With a three-goal lead in the second half of an exhibition game, the Hawai'i Pacific coaching staff emptied the bench, getting a look at the reserves receiving extra minutes. Despite several close calls and hit posts, neither side could find the back of the net in the second half. The game would end with HPU earning the 3-0 victory.
After the game Porras, who was named to the All-Pacific West Conference Preseason Team on Friday, commented on the team's tune-up match, "I think we played pretty well today against a good team. We have some very good players this year and I'm excited to get the season going."
Head Coach
Chris Fisher is also looking forward to getting the season underway, "Santa Rosa is a quality soccer team that is very well coached. We did some good things, but we have work to do. It is an important week at practice to prepare for our opener."
The Sea Warriors open the season on September 6th against Chaminade in a non-conference bout under the lights at Waipio Pennisula Soccer Park; kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
