Baseball Earns Five-Game Series Sweep

Box Score HONOLULU, HI (February 10, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Baseball Team (5-0) completed the series sweep with a 8-1 win over Northwest Nazarene (0-5) at Hans L'Orange Park on Monday afternoon.

The Crusaders scratched out an unearned run in the second inning to take the early lead. After that, it was all Sea Warriors.

HPU used its speed when Ryan Torres-Torioka and Jordan Oshiro both beat out relay throws on would-be double plays to take a 2-1 lead in the fourth.

The Sea Warriors tacked on another run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Tokunaga.

HPU blew the game wide open when it scored five more times in the seventh inning. James Carraway and Codey Ellenwood each had RBI doubles in the frame. Keanu Kapana and Oshiro also added RBI hits.

John Albert earned the win after allowing just the one unearned run in five innings of work. Bryson Gauthe, Dustin Hamiliton, and Nolan Hoppie all contributed to the shutout out of the bullpen.

HPU has now defeated Northwest Nazarene eight consecutive times, dating back to last season.

The Sea Warriors now head on an eight-game road trip, starting with four conference games against Fresno Pacific on February 22nd and 24th. HPU will then play at Cal State East Bay beginning on February 27th.
