Boat Shoots 2-Under 70 for Medalist Honors in North Shore Tri-Match

HONOLULU, HI (February 13, 2014)—The Hawai`i Pacific Men's Golf Team opened its championship season at Turtle Bay Resort on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Ian Boat took medalist honors after shooting a two-under 70 to win the match by five strokes.

The Sea Warriors faced familiar foes BYU-Hawaii and Chaminade in a tri-match on the Palmer Course at Turtle Bay.

Boat registered four consecutive birdies on the front-nine to open a big, early lead. He was the only golfer to finish under par on the difficult course.

HPU held the lead in the clubhouse after the first four groups completed play, but slipped to third once the highest scores were dropped.

A pair of freshman turned in the Sea Warriors next lowest scores, as Alec Fourie shot a 78 and Kevin Goldstein shot an 81. James Fawsett (84) and Andy Rodby (91) rounded the last two rounds for HPU who shot 313 as a team.

BYUH too the team title with a score of 308 while Chaminade finished second with a 311.

The three teams will face off in another tri-match at Ko'olau Golf Club on February 18th at 12:00 p.m.
