More Late Dramatics Helps Baseball to Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WAIPAHU, HI (March 11, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Baseball Team (11-5, 5-3) scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning in game one of the doubleheader and then won, 8-7, in the 10th inning. The Sea Warriors lost to game two 3-1 to California Baptist (17-5, 3-5).

With two outs, nobody on base and down three runs in the last of the ninth, things looked bleak for HPU. Doug Christie kept the Sea Warriors alive by singling up the middle on a 3-2 count. Codey Ellenwood was also down to his last strike before he too singled through the middle. That brought up last night's game one hero, Kevin Lenik, who worked the count full. Incredibly, Lenik pounded a no-doubt home run into the Waipahu night to tie the game.

In the 10th inning, HPU had to two runners on base thanks to singles from Tyler Tokunaga and Derek Nakasato. With Tokunaga in scoring position, Chad Bolibol singled to center field to win the game.

The Sea Warriors were down 6-0 heading to the bottom of the sixth inning, but scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and then two more in the bottom of the eighth to set the stage for the comeback.

Pulama Silva (2-0) pitched an inning and two-thirds of shutout relief to earn the win.

The Lancers came into the day ranked 19th in the country and looked the part in game two.

The Sea Warrior bats went cold in the seven inning contest only managing one run on five hits. That run and three of the hits came in the HPU half of the sixth inning. Jordan Oshiro and Tokunaga each singled before Nakasato drove in the speedy Oshiro.

HPU will return to the diamond on Friday against Point Loma for a doubleheader starting at 4:00 p.m. at Hans L'Orange Park.
