Box Score 2 ST. GEORGE, UT (March 22, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Baseball Team (14-10, 8-8) lost both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Dixie State (20-11, 14-2). The Sea Warriors mounted a big comeback in game one but fell 8-7 in 10 innings, the home team kept the momentum winning the series finale 6-3.
Game one seemed to be a lost cause as HPU entered the ninth inning trailing 7-3. The never-say-die Sea Warriors put runners on first and second base with one out.
Derek Nakasato ripped a double to left center field that scored both runners to make it 7-5. Now with two outs,
Chad Bolibol singled home Nakasato to make it a one-run game. After moving to third on an error, Bolibol scored on a clutch hit by
Tyler Tokunaga to tie the game.
Pulama Silva pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth, but an error in the 10th inning led to a Dixie State run that ended the game.
HPU pushed single runs across in the second, fifth and sixth innings on two RBI hits from Anu Kapana and a RBI double from
Codey Ellenwood.
In game two, Dixie State jumped out in front leading 2-0. HPU cut into the lead with a sacrifice fly from
Kevin Lenik in the third inning.
The Red Storm added two more runs in the third and then another in the fifth inning to lead 5-1.
Lenik and Tokunaga both hit doubles in the sixth inning to make it a three run game. However, Dixie State answered with a run of its own in its half of the sixth.
Always active late in games, HPU scored in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Ellenwood. The Sea Warriors brought the tying run to the plate but the comeback was short circuited.
Ellenwood (4), Tokunaga (4), Lenik (3), Nakasato (3), Bolibol (2), Kapana (2), and
Ryan Torres-Torioka (2) all had multiple hits on the day.
HPU now heads to San Francisco for a pair of doubleheaders at Academy of Art on March 25th and 26th.
