Men’s Golf Impresses with 297

KAHUKU, HI (March 28, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Men's Golf Team had a strong showing in the second round of the Aloha at Oahu Tournament played at the Fazio Course at Turtle Bay. HPU posted its second best score of the year, a 297, to place third in the six team field.

Senior James Fawssett, playing in his last match on Oahu, shot an even-par 72 to give him 147 for the two round tournament, placing him tied for seventh place.

Also in seventh place was Kevin Goldstein, who shot a 74. Goldstein may have had the shot of the tournament when on the 18th hole he dropped his approach shot to within five feet from over 150 yards out. The more impressive thing was that Goldstein was standing in the water, with no shoes, when the ball was struck.

Alec Fourie carded a 75 for a two-day total of 153, good for 16th place. Andy Rodby, who is playing the best golf of his season, was close behind with a 76 and finished in 18th place. Ian Boat didn't have his "A game" but still grinded out a 78 to place him 20th in the 30 golfer field.

Hawai'i won the team event with a combined score of 556, followed by BYU-Hawaii and HPU. UH's Ryan Kuroiwa won medalist honors by shooting a 133.

The Sea Warriors next head to San Francisco for the 36-hole PacWest Championship on April 18th and 19th.
