Box Score 2 WAIPAHU, HI (April 14, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Baseball Team (27-15, 17-13) sent its eight seniors out on a high note with a dramatic 9-6 last at-bat victory in game one. Visiting Azusa Pacific (22-14, 15-9) won game two, 8-4.
Down 6-3 in the last of the eighth, the HPU bats exploded. After loading the bases with one out,
Derek Nakasato singled through the right side of the infield to drive in two.
Kevin Lenik then followed with a single to center field to tie the game.
Chad Bolibol left no doubt with a three-run homer to left to give HPU a 9-6 lead.
Wyndam Williams then shut the door in the ninth for his second save of the season with help from
Ryan Torres-Torioka, who started a double play with an acrobatic catch.
HPU jumped on top in game one with two runs in the first inning, courtesy of a two RBI base knock from Bolibol. The lead was short lived however with APU striking back with three runs in the second inning and then two more in the fourth to make it 5-2.
Bolibol, who had a monster game, drove in another run in the seventh inning, but APU matched in its half of the eighth inning.
Bolibol ended the game going 3-5 with six RBI and a run scored.
Tyler Tokunaga also had three hits and a pair of runs scored.
Jordan Oshiro, Lenik, and Nakasato all had two hit games. Nakasato extended his school record hitting streak to 34 games in the opener.
Dustin Hamiliton earned the win after striking out the only batter he faced.
Game two was bizarre. Azusa Pacific opened the game with three consecutive errors, HPU got on the board with a bases loaded walk to Bolibol and another run scored on Anu Kapana's fielder's choice.
APU score a pair of runs in the second inning and another in the third to grab a 3-2 lead.
The Sea Warriors took advantage of more Cougar miscues in the fourth when they scored two runs on two walks and two more errors. HPU led 4-3 after the fourth, without the benefit of a base hit in the game.
HPU got its first hit in the sixth when
Codey Ellenwood singled down the left field line.
APU tallied five unanswered runs over the last two innings to secure the victory in the seven inning contest.
Senior
Nolan Hoppie struck out the only batter he faced in his final home game.
HPU closes the regular season with a six-game series at UH Hilo. There will be doubleheaders on May 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
