Box Score 2 WAIPAHU, HI (April 4, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Baseball Team (21-13, 15-11) faced little resistance during Friday's doubleheader against UH Hilo (10-23, 8-18). HPU took game won 9-1 and then won the second game 16-5.
In game one, HPU went up 5-0 after the fourth inning and never looked back.
Reining PacWest and West Region Pitcher of the Week, Joshua "Rico" Garcia, was dominant giving up just one run over seven innings of work. The sophomore struck out six on his way to his third victory of the season.
John Albert relieved for the last two innings without giving up a run.
Jordan Oshiro was perfect at the top of the HPU lineup going 3-3 with two runs, a stolen base, and a RBI. Nakasato, the current PacWest Player of the Week, also had three hits to go with three RBI and a run scored.
Tyler Tokunaga,
Chad Bolibol,
James Carraway, and
Lanan Rice-Kashima each contributed two hits in the rout.
HPU only had one extra base hit in game one (a double from
Kevin Lenik) but that changed in a big way in game two. The Sea Warriors posted four triples, two each from Nakasato and
Ryan Torres-Torioka, and a double (
Jake Laurita) in the night cap.
HPU led 9-0 in the fourth inning before UH Hilo could muster a run.
The PacWest's leading ERA man was at it again in game two.
Bryson Gauthe, who entered the game with a 1.11 ERA, didn't allow an earned run in seven innings.
Nakasato stayed red hot in game two going 3-5 with three runs and five RBI. The Vulcans couldn't get Bolibol out in the second game, the junior hit 3-3 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored. Oshiro, Tokunaga,
Codey Ellenwood, and Torres-Torioka all produced multi-hit games in game two.
The two teams will play a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday at Hans L'Orange Park at 2:00 pm.
