Baseball Sweeps Vulcans, Again

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WAIPAHU, HI (April 5, 2014)--  The Hawai`i Pacific Baseball Team (23-13)  took both games of a doubleheader against UH Hilo (10-25) at Hans L'Orange Park. HPU won game one 4-3 and emerged victorious in game two 5-4.
 
HPU won game one in comeback fashion. Scoring three runs late in the game.
 
The Vulcans were the first to score getting a pair of runs in the third inning. Each team scored a lone run in the fifth, leaving Hilo with a 3-1 lead heading into the seventh inning.
 
HPU scored three runs in the seventh off an RBI single by Derek Nakasato and an RBI double from Kevin Lenik. Chad Bolibol later hit a single that lead to an error by the Vulcans for another run to give HPU a 4-3 lead they would not relinquish.
 
Doug Christie started the game going six innings while allowing just one earned run. Jeremy Fujimoto earned the win, not allowing a single run in two innings of work. Wyndam Williams picked up the save, working a perfect ninth.
 
In game two, HPU scored first with a run in the third as Jordan Oshiro singled through the left side, stole second, and eventually scored on a Tyler Tokunaga RBI-single.
 
The Vulcans scored two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth, but HPU answered with three of their own in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead.
 
Hilo scored a run in the top of the seventh to tie the game, but HPU scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to take the 5-4, walk-off win.
 
Williams picked up the win in game two after allowing just one unearned run in 1 2/3 innings of work.
 
Codey Ellenwood, Bolibol and Nakasato each had multiple hits for HPU in game two.
 
The two sides will face off again tomorrow in a doubleheader at Hans L'Orange Park beginning at 11 a.m.
