Late Innings Dramatics Continue for Baseball in Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WAIPAHU, HI (April 6, 2014) –  If the nickname "cardiac kids" wasn't already taken, it would be perfect for the 2014 Hawai'i Pacific Baseball Team. The Sea Warriors (25-13) got a pair of walk-off hits leading to a doubleheader sweep of visiting UH Hilo (10-27). HPU took the opener 11-10 and then prevailed 7-6 in the second game.

The first game appeared to be a laugher as HPU raced out to a 10-2 lead after five innings. However, UH Hilo roared back with two runs in the sixth, three in the seventh, two in the eighth, and then it tied the game at 10 in the ninth.

In the home half of the 10th inning, James Carraway tripled to left center field to lead off. Lanan Rice-Kashima then won the game with a laser to left field that enabled Carraway to trot home.

Wyndam Williams got the win in game one after yielding just one run over two and two-thirds innings. Williams earned two wins and a save in HPU's past three games.

Game two was the opposite story line. The Vulcans jumped out to a 6-0 lead three and half innings into the seven inning second game.

HPU got a run back in the fourth on a Chad Bolibol RBI hit. The Sea Warriors got another step closer with three more runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two RBI single from Ryan Torres-Torioka.

Heading to the bottom of the seventh, the Sea Warriors trailed 6-4. With one out, Bolibol singled through the right side. Carraway then singled to center. Up came Codey Ellenwood who pounded a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall for a walk-off three-run homer.

The win went to Jeremy Fujimoto (4-0) who was dynamite in relief. He gave up one hit in three innings, allowing the offense a chance to comeback.

For the doubleheader, Carraway tallied six hits; Bolibol had five, while Tyler Tokunaga had four. Jordan Oshiro swiped three more bases and had three hits. Ellenwood also had three hits to go with his five RBI.

The Sea Warriors will next host a doubleheader vs. Azusa Pacific on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Hans L'Orange Park.
