SAN DIEGO, CA (March 16, 2015) – The sixth-ranked Hawai'i Pacific Women's Tennis Team (13-2) beat PacWest rival Point Loma (5-8) on the road, 8-1, on Monday evening.
The 22nd ranked Sea Lions were swept in doubles by the Sharks. The top duo of
Kristyna Hancarova and
Nicole Hoynaski doubled up Loma with an 8-4 win. The teams of
Lorena Gheorghe/
Lea Kruse-Utermann and
Vivian Hansen/
Julia Sauer each picked up 8-5 victories to give HPU a 3-0 lead.
HPU mixed up the singles lineup with Hoynaski dominating at the top of the lineup. The Australian won the first set 6-0 and was leading the second 3-0 before her opponent retired. Gheorghe was also lights out at third singles, winning 6-1, 6-0. Sauer took advantage of her time in the singles lineup with an overpowering 6-2, 6-1 win at sixth singles. Hansen (6-3, 7-5) and Kruse-Utermann (6-2, 7-6) also advanced in straight sets.
The Sharks continue the road trip against Azusa Pacific on Tuesday in San Diego.
