HONOLULU, HI (March 19, 2015) – For the first time at home, the Hawai'i Pacific Acrobatics and Tumbling Team was victorious. HPU (4-1) defeated Fairmont State (3-3) 271.55-259.815 on Thursday night at Moanalua High School.

The Sharks had their way, winning every event and only dropping two heats all night.

HPU opened the meet with a 37.05-34.80 win in the Compulsory Event, aided by a 9.65 in the Pyramid Heat.

The Sharks added to their lead, ever so slightly (.15 points), in the Acro Event. The Sharks earned some breathing room with a 9.65 in Heat Two (six element).

The Shark's advantage continued to grow in the Pyramid Event with a 29.30-28.75 triumph. Heat Two, also known as the Twist Heat, is quickly becoming HPU's bread and butter. The team of Amara Poquette, Nicole Saiki, Lexi Vincent, Joely Smith, and Melanie Hew posted a 9.90, the best score of the night for either side.

A pair of 9.80's in the first two heats put HPU in front in the Toss Event, HPU took the event 28.15-26.90.

HPU excelled in the Tumbling Event, winning 54.250-51.075. Hew was outstanding in the 6 Element pass, scoring a 9.775. NCATA 2014 All-American Nancy Miceli soared to a 9.725 in the Open Pass.

The Sharks led by 7.375 points headed into the Team Event and didn't stop there. HPU slammed the door with a 94.80-90.44 win.

"I'm excited about tonight's win, but we're ready to get back to work and bring in another W next Friday. I'm extremely proud of our tumblers tonight, they brought in some amazing scores and I can't wait to see them improve even more at our next meet," said the reigning NCATA Coach of the Year, Keenyn Won.

HPU hosts the four-time defending national champions, Oregon, on March 27th. The meet starts at 6:30 pm at Kamehameha High School.
