Box Score 2 AZUSA, CA (March 27, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Baseball Team (12-11, 9-9) did not fair well to opening the series with PacWest powerhouse Azusa Pacific (22-8, 12-7). The Sharks dropped both ends of the doubleheader, 6-2 and 6-3.
APU managed to score two runs in the first inning of game one to grab control early.
In the third inning,
Bronson Aiwohi reached on a error by APU's second baseman that scored
Ryan Torres-Torioka. The very next batter,
Jordan Oshiro, singled to right field to even up the score at two.
In the bottom of inning, APU got both runs back on an opposite field two-run homerun by Jordan Brower. Brower did it again in the seventh; homering for the second time to give APU a 6-2 lead that it held onto.
Rico Garcia was tagged with the loss, but still punched out eight batters.
Game two saw a similar start for APU as it was able to put up a four spot in the first inning. The Cougers extend their lead to six runs with runs in both the third and fourth innings.
In the seventh inning, the Sharks attempted a comeback.
William Leskovec hit his first career homerun, a solo shot to left field. Torres-Torioka then drove in a run on a single up the middle and later scored on a wild pitch. However, this is all the Sharks were able to put up and fell by the score of 6-3.
The Sharks look for redemption tomorrow (March 28th) when they go back at it against Azusa Pacific in the final doubleheader of the series.
