Box Score 2 SAN DIEGO, CA (April 2, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Baseball Team (12-15, 9-13) fell victim to a hot Point Loma (26-7, 14-4) team on Thursday. The Sharks lost both games of the doubleheader to the Sea Lions to start the season series and continue the slide on this road trip. The Sea Lions proved too much today, advancing their winning streak to an amazing 13 games by winning 7-1 and 2-1.
Harley Holt (3-4) started game one for the Sharks and was hot early, he kept PLNU out of the hit column for the first three innings.
In the fourth inning however, the Sea Lions figured it out and struck for a four runs on four hits in the inning. The first three Loma batters all reached base safely and scored in the fifth, giving the home team a seven-run lead entering the latter part of the game.
In the seventh inning,
James Carraway drove in
Codey Ellenwood on a ground out to second base. This represented HPU's only run of the game.
Tyler Tokunaga had a good game for the Sharks collecting three of the team's seven hits.
In game two, it was
Brandon Van Stone who got the nod for the Sharks, and he was phenomenal. Van Stone pitched seven innings, allowing just one run on eight hits while striking out three.
Point Loma took the early lead on the Sharks, scoring a run in the second inning.
For HPU the hits were plentiful but the Sharks just could not come up with that key hit for most of the game.
In the seventh,
Ryan Torres-Torioka did come up with that hit, singling up the middle to drive in
Reid Akau to tie the game.
Cody Ells (0-2) replaced Van Stone in the eighth inning, effectively getting out of trouble.
In the bottom of the ninth however, the Sea Lions managed to scratch out the winning run on a base hit up the middle to win the game.
Akau had a career day hitting; going 4-4 and scoring the Sharks only run of the game.
HPU continues the series with Point Loma tomorrow in San Diego for another doubleheader.
