FAIRMONT, WV (April 25, 2015) – By the numbers, the Hawai'i Pacific Acrobatics and Tumbling Team (6-2) performed better than yesterday. However, HPU's second best meet total of the season wasn't enough to beat defending champion Oregon (4-3), falling 283.495-281.325.
Oregon took a slight .20 lead to open the meet in the Compulsory Event, 38.90-38.70. With a trip to the national title on the line, both sides were on its game. Remarkably, each team posted perfect 10s in the Pyramid Heat. Â
HPU excelled in the Acro Event and took the overall lead with a 29.65-29.05 win. The Sharks put a pair of 9.9s on the board in the first two heats.
The Pyramid Event was again a strong suit for HPU. The Sharks were nearly perfect with a 9.90, 9.95, and 9.90 but Oregon was good as well. HPU won the event and increased the lead, 29.75-29.65.
At the half, HPU led 98.10-97.60.
The Ducks had their best Toss Event of the season, winning 29.15-28.45. The win put Oregon back in front but by only .2 points.
Despite a 9.825 in the Six Element Pass and a 9.850 in the Open Pass, Oregon slightly added to its lead in the Tumbling Event (57.525-56.325).
The contest was up for grabs in the Team Event but Oregon executed its difficult routine winning the event (99.22-98.45) and the meet.
"We turned it around from yesterday and despite this loss I am proud of this team and what they've accomplished on and off the mat. They've made such an impact on this sport this weekend and it has only made us more excited for the future," said Head Coach
Keenyn Won.
