Baseball Sends Seniors Out with Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WAIPAHU, HI (April 26, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Baseball Team (27-20, 17-15) sent the senior class out with a sweep. HPU completed the four-game series sweep of Academy of Art (7-35, 4-24) by winning game one 8-4 before getting a walk-off 2-1 win in the second game.

The Sharks killed the game one suspense almost immediately by scoring five-runs in a rain soaked first inning. Ryan Torres-Torioka had the big blow with a two RBI single to right center, he was followed by RBI hits from Austin Inabata, William Leskovec and Bronson Aiwohi.

HPU made it 7-0 in the third inning when Tyler Tokunaga drove in Jordan Oshiro and Aiwohi.

In the fourth, Art U got on the board but the lead was pushed back to seven when Tokunaga doubled in Oshiro in the sixth inning.

Down 8-1, the Urban Knights scored two runs in the eighth and added another in the ninth. However, it was not close to enough.

Starter Brandon Van Stone (3-4) was lights out. He threw seven innings allowing just one unearned run.

Runs were much harder to come by in game two.

HPU struck first on an RBI groundout from James Carraway in the fifth inning.

After a rain delay, Art U tied the game up at one in the sixth inning.

In the last of the seventh, Codey Ellenwood opened with a single. After an out, Carraway also singled to put runners on first and second. Steven Camberos then chopped a ball to second base, the Art U defender tried to tag Carraway but he eluded the tag. The throw to first was air mailed in haste allowing pinch runner Tre' Haliburton-Goeas to score the winning run.

Cody Ells (2-2) got the win after recording the final two outs. Starter Jordan Deponte pitched 5.1 innings and allowed just one run. Ethan Kalin provided a scoreless inning of work.

After the game, HPU said goodbye to Deponte, John Albert, Ellenwood, Chad Bolibol, Oshiro, Brent Daugherty, Dorian Rivera, Carraway, Harley Holt, and Ian Arciaga. Derek Nakasato was also honored but his eligibility may not be finished pending a medical redshirt.
