Acro & Tumbling Bested by No. 1 Baylor at NCATA Semifinals

WACO, Texas (April 18, 2016) – The No. 4 Hawaii Pacific Acrobatics & Tumbling team fell to top-ranked Baylor 284.800-278.310 in the semifinal round of the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association National Championships at Baylor University's Ferrell Center.
 
With the loss, the Sharks fell to 4-4 to end their third season of competition in the fledgling sport. The Bears improved to 9-0 on the campaign and will face Oregon on Tuesday for the national championship.
 
HPU won the Acro (29.60-29.55) event, while dropping the Compulsory (38.85-38.60), Pyramid (29.80-29.60), Toss (29.35-27.85), Tumbling (56.850-53.800) and Team (100.40-98.86) segments to Baylor.

On Saturday, the Sharks landed three student-athletes on the NCATA All-American team: Andrea Miceli, Nancy Miceli (both seniors from Orlando, Fla.) and Shawna Uehara (senior from Kamehameha). Additionally, Uehara was named NCATA Most Outstanding Player, while HPU teammate Nicole Saiki, a junior from Moanalua High School, earned the Louise Goodrun Academic Achievement Award.
 
In the individual event competition, also held Saturday, the Sharks took home national championship trophies in Seven-Element Acro, Pyramid Twist Heat, Pyramid Release Heat and Tumbling Open Heat.
