SAN DIEGO – No. 5 Hawai'i Pacific University won the top three singles matches and claimed two doubles points as they beat No. 24 Point Loma in PacWest action on Tuesday at the PLNU Tennis Courts.
The Sharks (7-2) picked up their third straight 5-4 win with the victory over the Sea Lions (8-5).
HPU relied on its top players for all of its points during the match.
Eighth ranked
Nicole Hoynaski defeated 24th ranked Nikki Newell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and
Oceane Adam won at No. 3 singsl against Shelby Groeneveld 6-2, 6-3. The pair teamed at No. 2 doubles to beat Groeneveld/Taylor McGowan 8-2.
At No. 2 singles,
Lara Meccico beat Regina Koch 6-5, 7-6, and teamed with
Barbora Kijasova to down Newell/Koch at No. 1 doubles 8-6.
Point Loma collected wins in the other four positions with Kijasova falling at No. 4 singles to Nicole Camaratta 6-3, 7-6, Leticia dos Santos dropping No. 5 singles to McGowan 6-1, 6-1, and
Bianca Schulhof lost at No. 6 singles to Michelle Torres 6-0, 6-7, 6-4. The Sea Lion duo of Camaretta/Ellie Gamble defeated Schulhof/dos Santos 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
The Sharks continue with the Southern California swing on Thursday when they visit Azusa Pacific for a 10:30 a.m. HST (1:30 p.m. PDT) match.
