Oceane Adam pulled out a three-set victory at No. 3 singles to give No. 5 Hawai'i Pacific University a 5-4 win over PacWest Conference foe Azusa Pacific on Wednesday afternoon at Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex.

The fifth ranked Sharks (8-2) won their fourth 5-4 contest, while the Cougars (7-4) snapped a three-match winning streak.

The final position on the court with the match knotted at 4-all, Adam chalked up the win for HPU by downing Valeriia Kashina 6-3, 6-7 (1-7), 6-2.

The Sharks held an early 4-1 lead in the match, winning the top two doubles points and the top two singles points.

Nicole Hoynaski teamed to beat the No. 2 doubles team of Kashina/Jackie Resler 8-5, to go with a win at No. 1 doubles as
Barbora Kijasova/
Lara Meccico upset 17th ranked Natalie Johnson/Lisa Schneider 8-5.

To start singles, eighth ranked Hoynaski beat 38th ranked Johnson 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 and Meccico tripped up 29th ranked Schneider 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2.

The Cougars, who had a point from Kara Hinton/Tatiana Betancourt winning at No. 3 doubles over Leticia dos Santos/
Monica Greene 8-6, then came in with singles wins.

First was Resler beating dos Santos 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5, followed by Hinton's win at No. 4 over Kijasova 6-2, 7-5 and Bettancourt's win at No. 6 over
Bianca Schulhof 6-3, 6-2.

That set up the winning point at No. 3, the only spot that went three sets in the three-and-a half our match.

The Sharks complete their nearly two-week road trip on Thursday when they visit Cal State-Los Angeles for a 10:30 a.m. HST (1:30 p.m. PDT) match.
