Box Score HONOLULU — Hawai'i Pacific University open PacWest Conference play on Friday night with a 3-1 victory over Holy Names in James Castle Gym at St. Andrew's Priory.
The Sharks (3-6, 1-0) dropped the first set, but roared back to claim a 20-25, 25-12, 25-10, 25-14 win over the Hawks (0-11, 0-2).
"We've got to be more consistent in our play, and we definitely weren't tonight," said head coach
Jenic Tumaneng. "We didn't seem prepared coming in, so we need to work on that. But we got the win and we'll take it."
HPU dominated the stats in all but the opening set. The Sharks hit .359 for the match with 2.0 team blocks, while the Hawks recorded a .067 hitting percentage with no blocks.
HPU hit just .073 for the match with 2.0 team blocks, while the unbeaten Crusaders hit .346 with 7.0 team blocks.

Cameryn Collie of El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge, paced HPU with 10 kills. Junior middle hitter
Carson Pyle of Houston, Texas/Memorial, senior middle hitter
Lea Felton of Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis and sophomore outside hitter
Perla Escobar of Calexico, Calif./Calexico each posted six kills.
Summer Williams and Sierra Allen posted nine kills each for Holy Names.
HNU came out tough in the first set, opening a 19-13 lead that the Sharks closed to 23-20. But the Hawks came out of a time out to win the next two points for a 25-20 win. Holy Names hit .222 to the Sharks .148 in the set, but that would be the highlight for the Hawks.
HPU totally dominated the next three sets, hitting .478, .458 and .379. Holy Names hit .000 in both the second and fourth sets, and .077 in the third. HPU won 25-12, 25-10 and 25-14 in the three sets.
The Sharks won't have long to dwell on the match, as Hawai'i Hilo visits Castle Gym at the Priory on Saturday evening for a PacWest match that starts at 6 p.m.
