IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University's
Perla Escobar and
Cameryn Collie have been chosen to the 2019 All-PacWest Conference First Team released today by the conference office.
The dynamic duo helped lead the Sharks to a 19-11 campaign, 15-7 in the PacWest in 2019. It's the best season since 2005 when HPU went 24-3.
Escobar, a 5-9 senior outside hitter from Calexico, Calif./Calexico, led the Sharks and ranked second in the PacWest with 374 kills and led the PacWest with a 3.67 kills per set average. She also led HPU and ranked second in the PacWest with 416 points and 4.08 points per set. She also recorded 25 service aces to go with 307 digs on the season and tallied 10 double-doubles on the season. She is a member of both the 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs clubs for the Sharks as she has chalked up 1,127 career kills with 1,050 career digs.
Escobar was also a 2017 First Team All-PacWest performer.
Collie, a 5-8 junior outside hitter from El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge, ranked second for the Sharks with 347 kills that was fourth in the PacWest and third in the conference with 3.40 kills per set. Collie was second on the team and ranked fourth in the PacWest with 381.5 points and 3.74 points per set. She picked up 22 service aces on the season and posted 304 digs. Collie led the Sharks with 14 double-doubles on the season. She recorded 19 kills in back-to-back-to-back road matches this season at Hawai'i Hilo, Fresno Pacific and Holy Names.
Collie was a All-PacWest Conference Third Team selection in 2018.
The PacWest also announced its special award winners with the all-conference selections. Azusa Pacific's Julianne Miller was named the PacWest Player of the Year, with Point Loma's Cara Keturakis the PacWest Setter of the Year and APU's Bailey Henington the Libero of the Year. Chaminade's Leka Kiner-Falefa was chosen Newcomer of the Year and APU's Annaka Jorgenson the Freshman of the Year. Chris Keife of PacWest Conference Champion Azusa Pacific was selected Coach of the Year.
In addition to the Sharks Escobar and Collie, and special award winners Miller, Keturakis, Henington and Jorgenson, the rest of the 12-member first team are UH Hilo's Bria Beale and Emily Wade, Chaminade's Emma Tecklenburg and Rachel Reedy, Azusa Pacific's Sara Wagenveld and Point Loma's Madie Fox.
