IRVINE, Calif. –Hawai'i Pacific University's
Amy Baum has been selected the PacWest Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week in an announcement Monday by the conference office.
Baum, a 5-7 sophomore guard from Melbourne, Australia/Rowville Secondary, produced a near triple-double last Monday in the No. 14/10 Sharks 103-78 win at Dominican (Calif.) in the only official game HPU had last week.
Baum scored 13 points with 10 rebounds and tallied nine assists in the game to go with five steals before fouling out. It was the second time in her career that she has missed a triple-double by one number in a category. On Feb. 6, 2019 against Dominican, she had 27 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists. It was the Sharks' most points in a game since February 11, 2012, which also happened to be against the Penguins. Baum's five steals were a season high, while the nine assists tied her season her. She's averaging 12.9 points and 7.6 rebounds.
The Sharks did have an exhibition game against Hope International last week where Baum scored five points with 11 boards and seven assists in a 71-58 win. That game did not count on the record or toward any honors.
Joining Baum with the women's weekly honors are Azusa Pacific's Laura Pranger as PacWest Defender of the Week and Academy of Art's Aari'yanna Sanders as PacWest Freshman of the Week.
The Sharks are off for the holidays until Thursday, Jan. 2, when they host Biola at The Shark Tank. Tipoff is slated for 4:30 p.m.
