Escobar Named D2CCA All-West Region

PORTLAND, Ore. – Hawai'i Pacific University senior Perla Escobar has been selected to the 2019 Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-West Region Volleyball Team announced on Wednesday.

Escobar, a 5-9 senior outside hitter from Calexico, Calif./Calexico, was chosen to the D2CCA All-West Region Second Team after leading the Sharks to a 19-11 campaign, 15-7 in the PacWest in 2019. It's the best season since 2005 when HPU went 24-3.

Escobar ranked second in the PacWest with 374 kills and led the PacWest with a 3.67 kills per set average. She also led HPU and ranked second in the PacWest with 416 points and 4.08 points per set. She also recorded 25 service aces to go with 307 digs on the season and tallied 10 double-doubles on the season. She is a member of both the 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs clubs for the Sharks as she has chalked up 1,127 career kills with 1,050 career digs. She earned 2019 All-PacWest First Team honors to go with the same award in 2017.

This is her first All-Region honor.

Cal State San Bernadino's Alexis Cardoza was named the West Region Player of the Year in leading the first team.

The PacWest Conference placed Bria Beale of Hawai'i Hilo along with Azusa Pacific's Julianne Miller and Bailey Henington on the first team. Joining Escobar on the second team are Chaminad's Emma Tecklenburg and Point Loma's Madie Fox and Cara Keturakis.

Voting was conducted by the NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors from West Region institutions and conference offices. The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
