IRVINE, Calif. –Hawai'i Pacific University's
Amy Baum has been selected the PacWest Conference Women's Basketball Defender of the Week announced Monday by the conference office.
Baum, a 5-7 sophomore guard from Melbourne, Australia/Rowville Secondary, led the No. 24 Sharks to an 86-75 triumph over No. 4 Azusa Pacific to open PacWest Conference play on Friday night in the Sharks only contest of the week.
Baum led the game with nine rebounds, all defensive, to go with 16 points, seven assists and a steal in handing the fourth-ranked Cougars their first loss of the season. She was 5-of-8 from the floor, 2-of-2 from the 3-point arc and 4-of-4 from the foul line while playing all 40 minutes. The Sharks held the Cougars below their 77.7 scoring average entering the game, and to their second lowest scoring output of the season. The Sharks forced 22 Cougar turnovers -- seven more than their average entering the game.
Baum ranks 12th in the PacWest in scoring, averaging 14.3 points a game, 14th in rebounding with 6.3 per contest, and leads the conference with 5.7 assists per game. She's tied for third in the league with a 1.8 assist/turnover ratio.
Joining Noblett with the women's weekly honors are Fresno Pacific's Cassie Pisik as PacWest Player of the Week and Biola's Stephanie Lee repeats as PacWest Freshman of the Week.
The Sharks travel to northern California for a three-game road swing starting on Thursday when they visit Holy Names for a 3:30 p.m. HST (5:30 PDT) tipoff at Tobin Gym.
