Sharks Mackenzie PacWest Player of the Week, Baum Freshman of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University doubled up on PacWest Conference Women's Basketball Awards this week as guard Breanna Mackenzie was selected the Player of the Week and guard Amy Baum the Freshman of the Week.
 
Mackenzie, a 5-7 senior from Melbourne, Australia/Box Hill, is the Player of the Week after leading the defending PacWest Conference Champions to victories over No. 25 Azusa Pacific and Biola last week to pull the Sharks even in the loss column for the lead in the PacWest Conference race. She averaged 16.0 points a game for the week, 6.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.5 steals, while shooting 52 percent from the floor (13-of-25) in the wins. Against Biola she scored a season-high 30 points with six rebounds and four steals, while scoring 12 points with six boards and steal against Azusa Pacific.
 
Baum, a 5-7 freshman from Melbourne, Australia/Rowville Secondary, picks up her fourth Freshman of the Week award in leading HPU in the victories including the first PacWest loss by No. 25 Azusa Pacific this season. Baum averaged 6.0 points a game with 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists with 2.0 steals a game. She shot 50.0 from the floor and 40.0 from the 3-point arc. She collected six points with nine rebounds and seven assists against Biola.
 
Joining the HPU duo in the weekly awards is APU's Laura Pranger as Defender of the Week who had nine steals and six blocks in the Cougars 2-1 trip to Hawai'i.
 
The Sharks (15-5, 13-1) are in the middle of a five-game homestand. HPU faces cross-town rival Chaminade today (Monday) at 4:30 p.m. at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center, and has a rematch against Dominican (Calif.) on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. also at the Blaisdell. The homestand concludes Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. against Academy of Art at the Moanalua High School Gymnasium.
