No. 7 Sharks Beat Arizona Christian, Lose to No. 1 Baylor

PHOENIX — No. 7 Hawai'i Pacific University closed the regular season scoring 275.335 points to beat host Arizona Christian with 256.970 points, but losing to No. 1 Baylor with 288.310 points in a tri-meet on Saturday at Fultz Memorial Gymnasium.
 
The Sharks (1-5) picked up their first win of the season against ACU (3-5) but fell to Baylor (8-0) for the second time.
 
In the Compulsory Event, Baylor lead the charge putting up a 9.95 and a 10.0 in two of the heats, but HPU was hot on their heels with a 9.90 and a 9.60 in the Toss and Pyramid heats accordingly.
 
The Sharks managed a tie with BU the 5-element heat of the Acro Event with a near perfect 9.95 which was also well above ACU's 8.60. They also won the 7-element heat scoring a 9.75 over BU's 9.50 and ACU's 8.25.
 
In the Pyramid Event, HPU continued to score well above the Firestorm topping them in all three heats with a 9.90 in the Inversion heat and a 9.85 in the Open heat. Overall in the Pyramid, HPU scored a 29.45 which was just shy of the Bears' 29.65.
 
Heading into the half time break, the Sharks were just behind BU with a 96.50 and almost seven full points ahead of ACU.
 
In the Toss Event, the Bears continued their dominance putting up 29.70 out of 30.0 possible points including a 10.00 in the Open heat. The Sharks toppled the Firestorm in all but the Synchronized heat scoring a 9.30 compared to a 9.50 from ACU.
 
In the Tumbling Event, the Sharks dominated the Aerial pass blowing by both teams with a 9.60 compared to Baylor's 8.95 and Arizona's 9.35.
 
Coming down to the Team Event, HPU again found themselves in the middle of both teams scoring 97.41 out of 104.56 total points. Baylor posted a 103.51 and Arizona a 90.92. Throughout the entire meet, the Sharks saw 14.38 points deducted from their starting values while BU saw 10.70 taken off.
 
The No. 7 Sharks now await the selections for the NCATA National Championships, April 25-27 at Baylor University's Farrell Center in Waco, Texas.
