IRVINE, Calif. –Hawai'i Pacific University's
Amy Baum has been selected the PacWest Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season in an announcement Monday by the conference office.
Baum, a 5-7 sophomore guard from Melbourne, Australia/Rowville Secondary, recorded the first triple-double in HPU women's basketball history in the No. 11/12 Sharks record breaking 115-83 victory against Dominican (Calif.) on Saturday.
She scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out 15 assists in the triumph as HPU set school records for points in a game (115), points in a half (65), points in a quarter (45, second quarter) and total assists (40). She also blocked three shots and made four steals.
But that wasn't all Baum accomplished as she averaged 17.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 1.67 blocks and 3.3 steals, while shooting 48.8 percent from the floor (20-of-41), with 5-of-12 (41.7 percent) from the 3-point arc and 6-of-11 from the foul line in a total of three games. She scored 18 points with five boards and four assists against Point Loma on Monday night in a 69-64 win, and 15 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals versus Notre Dame de Namur in a 68-59 triumph on Thursday.
She has helped lead the Sharks (14-1, 9-0) to a 10-game winning streak that has HPU leading the PacWest Conference by two games.
Joining Baum with the women's weekly honors are Chaminade's Destiny Castro as PacWest Defender of the Week and Holy Names' Amaya Ervin as PacWest Freshman of the Week.
HPU has one game this week to close a six-game new year's homestand. The Sharks host cross-town rival Chaminade in a PacWest Hawai'i Challenge contest. Tipoff is slated for 4:30 p.m. at The Shark Tank.
