HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University climbed into the top 10 in the two major Division II women's basketball poll released Tuesday.
The 16-1 Sharks moved up to eighth in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II Poll, and jumped up to seventh in the Division II Sports Information Directors' poll. On a 12-game winning streak, the Sharks are ranked in both polls for the sixth consecutive time this season.
For the first time this season, both polls have the same top two teams. After Lubbock Christian lost twice last week, Drury (Mo.) (16-0) is the No. 1 team in both polls. Drury is unanimous in the D2SIDA vote, and received 21 of the 23 first place votes in the WBCA. Ashland (Ohio) (17-0) is second in both as well, picking up the other two first place votes in the WBCA. Texas A&M-Commerce (17-0) is third in the D2SIDA poll and fourth in the WBCA poll. The WBCA coaches have Grand Valley State (Mich.) third. Alaska Anchorage is fourth in the D2SIDA, and fifth in the WBCA.
Fellow PacWest Conference member Azusa Pacific (14-3) is 18th in the WBCA poll and 16th in the D2SIDA poll.
The Sharks are on the road today (Tuesday) at Fresno Pacific, then return to Honolulu for a three-game homestand. HPU welcomes Holy Names to The Shark Tank on Saturday at 1 p.m. to start the stretch of three games in five days.
