HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University held steady in one and moved up in another this week as the two major Division II women's basketball polls were released Tuesday.
The now 21-1 Sharks remained seventh in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II Poll, and moved up to fifth in the Division II Sports Information Directors' poll. On a 17-game winning streak, the Sharks are ranked in both polls for the ninth consecutive time this season.
This week's poll does not reflect Monday night action where HPU defeated then No. 15/25 Azusa Pacific 85-71.
The top three teams are now the same in both polls. Drury (Mo.) (23-0) is the top squad in both polls. Drury is unanimous No. 1 in the D2SIDA poll, and received 18 of the 23 first place votes in the WBCA. Ashland (Ohio) (23-0) is second in both as well, picking up the other five first place votes in the WBCA. Texas A&M-Commerce (22-0) is third in both, moving up in the WBCA poll.
The WBCA has Indiana (Pa.) (21-1) fourth, Lee (Tenn.) (22-1) fifth, Grand Valley State (21-2) sixth and HPU seventh. The D2SIDA has Lee fourth, HPU fifth, Indiana (Pa.) sixth and Adelphi (21-2) seventh.
The rest of the top 10 in the WBCA has Alaska Anchorage (23-2) eighth, Lubbock Christian (19-3) ninth and Adelphi 10th.
In the D2SIDA poll, it's Grand Valley State eighth, Alaska Anchorage ninth and Sioux Falls (22-3) 10th.
Fellow PacWest Conference member Azusa Pacific (18-4) moved up to 14th in the WBCA but fell out of the D2SIDA poll.
The Sharks play the second game of their four-game Southern California road trip on Wednesday when they visit Concordia Irvine for a 3:30 p.m. HST (5:30 p.m. PST) contest at CU Arena.
