HONOLULU – PacWest Conference Champion Hawai'i Pacific University climbed two spots in one poll to match their No. 5 ranking in the other this week as the two major Division II women's basketball polls were released Tuesday.
The now 24-1 Sharks (19-0 in the PacWest) remained jumped to fifth from seventh in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II Poll, and held steady at fifth in the Division II Sports Information Directors' poll. On a 20-game winning streak, the Sharks are ranked in both polls for the 10th consecutive time this season.
This week's polls do not reflect Monday night action where HPU defeated Point Loma 98-83.
The two polls are now aligned in the top five positions. Drury (Mo.) (25-0) is the top team, receiving 16 of the 23 first place votes in the WBCA poll and 15 of the 16 first place votes in the D2SIDA poll. Ashland (Ohio) (25-0) is second, receiving the other seven first place votes in the WBCA poll. Texas A&M-Commerce (24-0) is third and collected the other first place vote in the D2SIDA poll. Lee (Tenn.) is fourth, just ahead of HPU.
The second five in the WBCA poll features Grand Valley State (23-2) sixth, Alaska Anchorage (25-2) seventh, Lubbock Christian (21-3) eighth, Indiana (Pa.) (22-2) ninth and Adelphi (23-2) 10th.
The D2SIDA sees it with Adelphi sixth, Grand Valley State seventh, Alaska Anchorage eighth, Indiana (Pa.) ninth and Belmont Abbey (23-2) 10th.
Fellow PacWest Conference member Azusa Pacific (20-4, 14-4) fell to 17th in the WBCA poll and is receiving votes in the D2SIDA poll.
The Sharks play once this week, on Saturday, when they travel to the Big Island to take on Hawai'i Hilo. The contest at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium is set for 1 p.m.
