IRVINE, Calif. – Senior
Ronald Blain was the only selection for Hawai'i Pacific University on the 2020 All-PacWest Conference Men's Basketball Team the conference office announced the team on Wednesday.
Blain was selected to the All-PacWest Conference Third team by the conference coaches as he led the Sharks to a 10-18 regular season, 8-14 for ninth in the PacWest.
The 6-5 senior from McDonough, Ga./Union Grove, led the Sharks with 16.1 points per game, ranking sixth in the PacWest and 211th nationally. He also led the team and was eighth in the conference in rebounding with 6.9 boards a contest. His 80.0 free throw percentage was fifth in the PacWest and 147th nationally, while his 47.0 field goal percentage was 12th in the league. He posted the top five scoring games for HPU this season: 25 points at Biola, 24 vs Hawai'i Hilo, 23 at Point Loma and at Dominican, and 22 against Simon Fraser.
As part of the All-PacWest Conference Team announcement, the league also announced the Special Awards for the season. Azusa Pacific's Selom Mawugbe was chosen as the PacWest Player of the Year, while Chaminade's Kendall Small was tabbed the Defender of the Year. Point Loma's Darnelll Robateau was selected the Newcomer of the Year, with Chaminade's Isaac Amarall-Artharee the Freshman of the Year. PacWest Champion Azusa Pacific head coach Peter Bond was named the Coach of the Year.
The Sharks ended their season last Saturday.
