Bates Selected PacWest Hawai'i Women's Player of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. –Hawai'i Pacific University's Ally Bates has been chosen the PacWest Conference Hawai'i Pod Women's Basketball Player of the Week by the conference office for her strong play against Chaminade last week.
 
Bates, a 5-9 junior from Melbourne, Australia/Yarra Valley, led the No. 2/7 Sharks (9-0, 8-0) in their 34th consecutive win, beating Silverswords for the fourth time this season. Bates scored 27 points, making 10-of-15 shots, including 3-of-7 from 3-point territory. The junior had a double-double adding 12 rebounds, including five on the offensive end of the floor. Bates made key contributions on the defensive end with two steals and two blocks, holding the Swords to just 37 points, which is the least points allowed by the Sharks this season and the second least allowed during the winning streak.
 
Bates this season is averaging 16.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
 
She is joined this week by the PacWest Southern California Player of the Week Michaela VanderKlugt of Concordia and by the PacWest Northern California Player of the Week Chanel Stuart of Academy of Art.
 
The Sharks travel to the Big Island this week to take on Hawai'i Hilo to complete the season series with the Vulcans. Tipoff at Vulcan Gym is slated for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Noon on Thursday.
