Sharks at Second and Fourth In National Polls

HONOLULU – The Hawai'i Pacific University women's basketball team remained second in one poll and climbed to fourth in the other as the latest Division II women's basketball polls were announced on Tuesday.
 
The 9-0 Sharks remained at their highest ranking in history, retaining second in the weekly Division II Sports Information Directors' poll.
 
In the Women's Basketball Coaches Association weekly poll, HPU moved up to fourth as the Sharks rolled their winning streak to 34 games.
 
Lubbock Christian (Texas) (13-0) is the unanimous number one team nationally, recording all 22 first place votes in the WBCA poll and all 16 top spot nods in the D2SIDA poll.
 
The next three teams are the same in both polls, just in a different order.
 
HPU is second in the D2SIDA poll, followed by Lander (S.C.) (14-0) is third and Drury (Mo.) (14-1) fourth. In the WBCA poll, Lander is second, Drury third and the Sharks fourth. Fort Hays State (Kan.) (18-2) is fifth in the WBCA, while Charleston (W.Va.) (13-1) is fifth in the D2SIDA.
 
The second five in the D2SIDA poll are Valdosta State (Ga.) (16-2) sixth, Fort Hays State seventh, North Georgia (14-1) eighth, Daemen (N.Y.) (9-1) ninth and Michigan Tech (15-1) 10th.
 
The second five in the WBCA poll are North Georgia sixth, Charleston (W.Va.) seventh, Valdosta State eighth, Minnesota Duluth (10-1) ninth and Michigan Tech 10th.
 
Two PacWest Conference teams are in the D2SIDA poll this week. Point Loma is ranked 23rd, with Azusa Pacific receiving votes. No other PacWest school is mentioned in the WBCA poll.
 
The Sharks have a pair of contests this week against Hawai'i Hilo on the Big Island. Tipoff at Vulcan Gym is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday and noon on Thursday.
