BELTON, Texas — No. 3 Hawai'i Pacific University didn't lose an event as the Sharks posted their highest score of the season in beating the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor 273.170-262.690 in Acrobatics & Tumbling play on Thursday at Mayborn Campus Center.
The Sharks (2-1) recorded the 10th best performance in the NCATA this season in the win. The Crusaders (2-3) posted their best score of the season in the loss.
The Sharks posted a narrow wins in the three first half of the meet.
HPU took the Compulsory event 37.80-37.40, and the Acro event 29.45-29.10.
But the Sharks started to make their move during the Pyramid event, when they posted a perfect 10.00 in the Open heat. The Sharks claimed the event with a 29.40, dropping just .60 in deductions, bettering UMHB's 28.75. HPU led 96.65-to-95.25 at halftime.
HPU held steady in the toss, winning 27.30-26.25, then stepped it up.
The Sharks won every heat in the Tumbling event, including posting a 9.575 out of 9.70 in the Open pass, to take a 54.350-51.600 win and extend their lead.
In the final Team event, HPU put together another clean event. The Sharks lost just 7.54 points in deductions in scoring a 94.87. UMHB scored an 89.59 to give HPU the 273.170-262.690 triumph.
In all the Sharks lost just 13.59 points in deductions from their starting values for the entire meet.
HPU closes a three-meet, 11-day trip to Texas with the victory. The Sharks also concluded their final regular season meet.
HPU, who improved to No. 3 in the NCATA National Rankings this week, now waits until the NCATA regular season comes to a close on April 10 before learning if they are selected to the NCATA National Championships in Waco, Texas on April 22-23.
