IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University's
Jordi Walder is the first PacWest Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for 2022, selected by the conference office for his strong play in the season opening Hawai'i Invitational.
Walder, a junior from Hagen, Germany, won all three of his singles matches at No. 1, and won both completed doubles sets with partner
Jan Pleva at No. 1 doubles in leading the No. 9 Sharks to a 3-0 start.
Walder beat 10th ranked Sebastian Herrera of Biola 6-1, 6-1, and 13th ranked Ryuan Nuno of Azusa Pacific 6-4, 6-4, as well as Leon Czarnikau of 17th ranked Concordia Irvine 6-0, 6-2 in singles action. He teamed with Pleva to beat Biola's Alexei Prokopchuk/Antonio Varona 6-4 and APU's Nuno/Leyton Bohren 6-3. The duo's set with CUI's Czarnikau/Mike Jansen was unfinished up 5-3.
Walder is joined for weekly honors by Point Loma's Thelma Sepulveda as the PacWest Women's Player of the Week.
