AZUSA, Calif. - At the Munson & Bavougian Tennis Complex, the HPU Sharks men's tennis team delivered an impressive all-around performance Sunday, defeating Menlo 7-0 to improve to 9-3 on the season.
Strong Start in Doubles
HPU controlled the match from the beginning, securing the crucial doubles point before sweeping all six singles matches to complete the shutout.
The Sharks opened the morning by claiming two of the three doubles matches.
The duo of
Yannick Heitzeberg and
Seth Newman set the tone at court 1 doubles with a 6-4 win over Menlo's Robin McAlpine and David Espinosa Navarro.
After dropping the second doubles match
Adam Vasir and
Matteo Perrod delivered a clutch 7-5 victory over Ian Ramiro Perez and Henry Riccioni-Brown to give the sharks the 1-0 lead.
Sharks Sweep Singles
HPU carried its momentum into singles play, winning all six courts to seal the sweep.
At No. 1 singles, Adam Vasir controlled his match against Robin McAlpine, winning 6–1, 6–3. Ethan Terry followed with a hard-fought 7–5, 7–5 victory over Henry Riccioni-Brown at No. 2.
Mile Matic added another point for the Sharks with a steady 6–4, 6–4 win against David Espinosa Navarro at No. 3. At No. 4, Seth Newman battled through a close first set before pulling away to defeat Tijl Forger 7–5, 6–3.
One of the most dramatic matches came at No. 5, where Arthur Pery rebounded after dropping the second set to defeat Robinson Pelluault 6–0, 1–6, 6–3. Rene Gabriel Jung closed out the day at No. 6 singles, winning a tiebreak in the opening set before finishing off Galien Del Vecchio 7–6 (7–2), 6–3.
With the victory, Hawaii Pacific continues its strong season while Menlo falls to 4–4 overall. The Sharks will look to build on the momentum as they continue their spring schedule.
