TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai'i Pacific University men's tennis team leaped to fourth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Men's Tennis Coaches Poll.
 
The Sharks (4-0) had a strong performance at the Hawai'i Invitational where they knocked off then No. 4 Hawai'i Hilo 6-1, then No. 12 Azusa Pacific 6-1, and then No. 17 Concordia Irvine 7-0. HPU also defeated Biola (receiving votes in the poll) 4-0.
 
The national poll also has a new No. 1, as Columbus State (Ga.) collected all nine first-place votes after previously top ranked and defending National Champion Barry (Fla.) was beaten by then No. 13 Lynn (Fla.) 4-3. Valdosta State (Ga.) moved up three spots to second, with Lynn vaulting to third and the Sharks fourth, just ahead of Barry who fell to fifth. West Florida stayed sixth, with Embry-Riddle (Fla.) up to seventh, Indianapolis falls to eighth, Saint Leo (Fla.) ninth and Lander (S.C.) 10th.
 
Azusa Pacific remained 12th, but UH Hilo dropped to 15th. The PacWest adds Biola at 19th and Concordia Irvine fell to 25th.
 
The Sharks are idle until next month, when they travel to southern California on a week-long road trip that starts in San Diego at Point Loma on March 10. First serve is set for Noon at the PLNU Tennis Courts.
