Sharks Women Move To Seventh In ITA Division II Poll

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai'i Pacific University women's tennis team jumped to seventh in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Women's Tennis Coaches Poll.
 
The Sharks (5-0) made the move after a successful Hawai'i Invitational where they beat previously seventh ranked Azusa Pacific 6-1 and then 24th ranked Biola 4-0. The Sharks also beat Concordia Irvine 4-0, Dominican 4-1 and Hawai'i  Hilo 4-3.
 
Defending National Champion Barry (Fla.) remained the unanimous No. 1 as the top four spots went unchanged from last month with Indianapolis second, Central Oklahoma third and Nova Southeastern (Fla.) fourth. Columbus State (Ga.) climbed to fifth, as West Alabama slipped a spot to sixth. HPU is up to seven, followed by Saint Leo (Fla.) eighth, Flagler (Fla.) down to ninth and Lynn (Fla.) remained 10th. Azusa Pacific fell to 11th.
 
The PacWest is very well represented in the poll, with HPU and APU seventh and 11th, joined by Point Loma entering at 23 and Biola down to 25. Academy of Art, Concordia Irvine and Fresno Pacific are all receiving votes in the poll.
 
The No. 7 Sharks are idle until next week when they face a string of three straight NCAA Division I opponents. HPU takes on Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Feb. 25, then Long Beach State on Friday, March 4 and Army on Sunday, March 6. All three matches will start at 10 a.m. at the University of Hawai'i Tennis Center.
