ALAMEDA, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University posted a two-round total of 595 on Monday to sit 12th heading into the final round of the 2022 Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by Cal State East Bay at Corica Park South Course.
HPU put up a 305 in the opening round, followed by a 2-over par 290 in the second round of the day to hold a six stroke lead over a 13th place tie between Northwest Nazarene and Dominican (Calif.) at 601. The Sharks are six behind 11th place Colorado-Colorado Springs.
Sophomore
Keita Okada of Tokyo, Japan/Bradenton, Fla. IMG Academy, leads the way for the Sharks. After a 1-over-par 73 in the first round, Okada toured the par 72, 6,783 yard Corica South Course in 3-under 69 in the second for a total of 2-under 142. It was his third 69 in four rounds of competition.
His second round opened with a double-bogey, but Okada followed it with seven birdies to pull within one shot of the lead, but suffered three straight bogeys before adding another birdie to finish at 3-under.
Senior
Ryan Torres of San Jose, Calif./Evergreen Valley fired a 1-under 71 in the second round after a 4-over 76 in the first to sit at 3-over 147 after the first day. Junior Keli'i Kamelamela-Dudoit of Ho'olehua, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama is at 6-over 150 with rounds of 4-over 76 and 2-over 74 on Monday. Freshman
Noah Daher of Cottonwood, Ariz./Mingus Union added an 80-76 – 156, with senior
Ray Kim of Aiea, Hawai'i/Moanalua carding an 80-78—158. Playing as an individual, junior
Hasee Nazir of Orange, Calif./Orange Lutheran turned in a 78-83—161 for the Sharks.
Cal State Monterey Bay leads the team competition after firing rounds of 276 and 286 for a 14-under 562, seven strokes ahead of host Cal State East Bay at 7-under 569. Cal State San Bernadino is third at 5-under 571.
Individually, East Bay's Ananjan Kaushik, playing as an individual, leads the tournament firing rounds of 3-under 69 and 5-under 67 to post an 8-under 136, three strokes ahead of a five-way tie for second at 5-under 139 between Monterey Bay's Simon Bjorken and Liam Allder, Holy Name's Edvin Backstrom, San Bernadino's Brian Nielsen and California's individual, Ethan Chung.
The final round of the tournament is on Tuesday, with a shotgun start at 5:20 a.m. HST (8:20 a.m. PDT) at the Corica South Course.
