TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai'i Pacific University women's tennis team slipped one spot to eighth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II computerized rankings.
The Sharks (10-5) held an 8-0 Division II record when the ranking compiled, with the loss to Biola and victories over Azusa Pacific and Indianapolis that wasn't figured in the poll. HPU holds a ranking score of 44.1, just ahead of Queens (N.C.) with 36.52 points in ninth, but just behind Indianapolis in seventh with 44.902 points.
Defending National Champion Barry (Fla.) is still at the top spot in the computer rankings with a 69.56, with Central Oklahoma climbing to second at 61.765 and Nova Southeastern (Fla.) down to third at 55.333. North Georgia is fourth at 48.981 and Saint Leo (Fla.) is fifth at 48.6. Cameron is sixth at 48.08, and Biola is up to 10th at 36.077.
Joining HPU and Biola in the rankings from the PacWest Conference are Azusa Pacific 19th and Fresno Pacific 46th.
In the singles and doubles rankings this week, freshman
Shaline Pipa moved up to seventh in singles, with senior
Elodie Busson joining the rankings at 19th. The Sharks top doubles team of Pipa and
Marleen Tilgner enter the rankings at 28th.
The No. 8 Sharks, coming off a seven-match trip to California, are idle until Sunday, March 27 when they host cross-town rival Chaminade. The match is set for Noon at the Kailua Racquet Club.
