TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai'i Pacific University women's tennis team jumped five spots to third in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Women's Tennis Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point.
The Sharks (10-5) have a 10-1 Division II record and have a computer ranking of 63.519 for the third position behind defending national champion Barry (Fla.) (10-0) who slipped to second with a rating of 70.48. HPU is ahead of fourth ranked Central Oklahoma (6-1) with a 59.549 rating.
The Sharks also have three singles players ranked nationally and one doubles pair.
Shaline Pipa moved up to seventh, with
Marleen Tilgner joining the rankings at 16th and
Elodie Busson moving down to 34th. The duo of Pipa and Tilgner moved up to 19th in the doubles rankings.
For the first time in school history, Nova Southeastern (Fla.) (10-1) took over the top spot with a 71.865 rating to pass Barry. Cameron (Okla.) (9-0) is fifth at 56.82. Indianapolis (6-2) is sixth at 51.943, Saint Leo (Fla.) (10-1) is seventh at 49.706, Columbus State (Ga.) (7-4) is eighth at 46.60, West Alabama (7-3) is ninth at 45.982 and Biola (13-1) is 10th at 45.019.
In addition to HPU and Biola, Azusa Pacific is the only other PacWest team ranked at 32nd.
The No. 3 Sharks return to the court on to face cross-town rival Chaminade early next week. The match has been moved to Monday with a 1 p.m. start at the Kailua Racquet Club.
