TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai'i Pacific men's tennis team held firm to seventh in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Men's Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point.
The Sharks (10-1) have played an all Division II slate this year and hold a 51.264 rating in seventh behind Valdosta State (Ga.) (11-3) in sixth at 53.929, and ahead of West Florida (14-4) who is now eighth at 50.287.
HPU continues to have two singles players and now two doubles teams ranked nationally this week.
Jordi Walder is number two nationally in singles, with
Robin Sanz slipping to No. 61. The pair of
Jan Pleva and Walder climbed a spot to 16th in doubles, and
Jakub Beran and Sanz joined the rankings at 47th.
The top seven spots remained unchanged from last with as Columbus State (Ga.) (12-1) remained at No. 1 with an 80.716 rating to stay ahead of defending national champion Barry (Fla.) (13-4) at 74.511 in second. Saint Leo (Fla.) (15-3) is third at 71.964, with Embry-Riddle (Fla.) fourth at 58.429 and North Georgia (13-3) fifth at 57.872. Flagler (Fla.) (11-3) improved to ninth at 47.747 with Indianapolis (9-3) back up to 10th at 45.733.
In addition to HPU, the PacWest Conference is represented in the poll by Azusa Pacific at 15, Biola at 40, and Hawai'i Hilo at 42. In the extended rankings, Metro State Denver is 63rd, Concordia Irvine is 66, and Point Loma is 67.
The Sharks have four tough matches this week, starting today (Thursday) at No. 26 Rollins. They then play at Sanlando Park in the Orlando suburb of Altamonte Springs, Fla., against No. 2 Barry on Friday, No. 3 Saint Leo on Saturday and No. 8 West Florida on Sunday.
