TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai'i Pacific women's tennis team slid one spot to eighth in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Women's Tennis Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point.
The Sharks (12-5) have an 11-1 Division II record and a computer ranking of 44.145 for eighth behind a team they've beaten, Indianapolis (9-2) at seven at 44.759, and ahead of North Georgia (11-2) at 43.833.
The Sharks also have two singles players ranked nationally and one doubles pair.
Shaline Pipa moved dropped to 13th, with
Marleen Tilgner slipping to 18th. The duo of Pipa and Tilgner improved to 30th in the doubles rankings.
Defending national champion Barry (Fla.) (16-0) is in the top spot with an 88.537 rating, with Nova Southeastern (Fla.) (14-2) second with 76.120 points and Saint Leo (Fla.) (13-2) third at 56.366 as the top three positions are unchanged from last week. Lynn (Fla.) (9-3) vaulted to fourth at 52.325, with Columbus State (Ga.) (12-4) down to fifth at 50.659 and Central Oklahoma (10-1) sixth at 45.358. Cameron (Okla.) (12-1) is down to 10th at 42.425.
In addition to HPU, the PacWest is represented by Biola at 18th, Azusa Pacific at 20th, and Point Loma at 39th. In the expanded list to 75 teams, Fresno Pacific is 66th.
The No. 8 Sharks are in Florida this weekend for three powerful matches at Sanlando Park in the Orlando suburb of Altamonte Springs. HPU meets No. 2 Nova Southeastern on Friday, then faces No. 3 Saint Leo on Saturday and No. 27 West Florida on Sunday.
