LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Hawai'i Pacific University posted a 332 to sit in seventh after the first round of the 2022 PacWest Conference Championships at the Wigwam Resort's Gold Course.
The Sharks follow the fifth place tie of Hawai'i Hilo and Point Loma at 317.
Freshmen
Lily Landt of Reno, Nev./Wooster and
Kellie Yamane of Aiea, Hawai'i/I'olani led the Sharks, both carding an 8-over-par 80 on the par 72, 5,927-yard women's championship layout. Freshman
Clarissa Burhan of Las Vegas, Nev./Clark added an 84, with senior
Cameron Kaneshiro of Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Baptist Academy chipping in an 88. Freshman
Kaila Bonawitz of Vancouver, Wash./Mountain View rounded out the scoring with a 90.
Biola leads the tournament after one round with a 308, five strokes better than the second place tie between Academy of Art and Dominican at 313. Holy Names is fourth at 315.
The individual race is tight, with Dominican's Claire Shubin birdied 17 to take a one stroke lead at 2-over 74. There's a five-way tie for second at 3-over 75 between DUC's Angelica Antonio, HNU's Regina Parra, BU's Sami Penor and ART U's Anahi Servin, the three-time defending champion.
The second round of the championships is set for Tuesday at Wigwam. Tee times start at 4 a.m. HST (7 a.m. MST).
