LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Defending PacWest Conference champion Keita Okada of Hawai'i Pacific University holds the second round lead and led the Sharks to the team lead after the second round of the 2022 PacWest Conference Championships at the Wigwam Resort's Gold Course.
 
The Sharks hung up a 299 as a team in the second round to total 594 to lead the event by four strokes over Dominican, who also shot 299 for a 598 in second. Holy Names had the day's best round of 298 to sit third at 601 with Hawai'i Hilo fourth at 604. Academy of Art is fifth at 609, with Chaminade sixth at 618.
 
Okada, a sophomore from Tokyo, Japan/Bradenton, Fla. IMG Academy who was tied for first after the opening round, had an up-and-down day with a 1-under-par 71 on the par 72, 6,964-yard Wigwam championship course, for the individual lead at 4-under 140. He recorded five birdies with four bogeys, but never was out of the lead after a birdie on the par 5 4th hole. His back-to-back birdies gave him a cushion to make the turn at 2-under, but bogeys on the par 3 11th and par 4 13th brought him back to even before his birdie at the par 5 14th to return to 1-under. He parred his way back in.
 
HPU senior Ryan Torres of San Jose, Calif./Evergreen Valley spent most of the day in second behind Okada, but a quadruple bogey 8 on the par 4 18th dropped him to a 4-over-76 for the day and sent him into a tie for fourth place at 3-over 147 with UH Hilo's Andrew Otani.
 
Holy Names Edvin Backstrom had an even-par 72 on Tuesday to move into second at 1-over 145, with Dominican's Matt Fry posting a 2-over 74 for a 2-over 146 in third.
 
Sharks junior Keli'i Kamelamela-Dudoit of Ho'olehua, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama carded a 3-over 75 to rank 15th at 9-over 153, while senior Ray Kim of Aiea, Hawai'i/Moanalua is tied for 16th after a 5-over 77 for a 10-over 154 total. Freshman Grant Garrison of Lake Tapps, Wash./Sumner carded a 9-over 81 as the Sharks fifth man.
 
The final round of the championships is Wednesday, with the Sharks playing in the final grouping that tees off starting at 6:50 a.m. HST (9:50 a.m. MST) at Wigwam's Gold Course. Okada has the final tee time at 7:30 a.m. HST (10:30 a.m. MST).
