LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Hawai'i Pacific University freshman
Lily Landt fired a school record 2-under-par 70 to jump into a third place tie after the second round of the 2022 PacWest Conference Championships at the Wigwam Resort's Gold Course.
Landt of Reno, Nev./Wooster, shot the best round of the tournament thus far, touring the par 72, 5,927-yard women's championship layout with the tourney's only sub-par round. Landt moved into a third place tie at 6-over 150, two strokes off the lead of Dominican's Claire Shubin at 4-over 148. Three-time defending champion Anahi Servin of Academy of Art is second at 5-over 149. Landt joins Dominican's Angelica Antonio and Regina Parra of Holy Names at 6-over in the tie.
Landt bogeyed her first hold, then birdied the par 4 2nd, the par four 5th and the par 4 7th to make the turn at -2 under for the day. She promptly birdied the par 5 10th to go to -3 under, only to bogey the par five 14th. Landt followed with a birdie on the par 4 15th, but gave it back with a bogey five on the par 4 17th to complete her historic round at 2-under 70. She is the first HPU women's golfer to shoot a round of par or under in competition.
The Sharks moved up to sixth with the fourth best team round of day two, recording a 313 for a 645 total. HPU is three strokes better than Point Loma at 648 in seventh, but three strokes behind Hawai'i Hilo in fifth at 642.
Freshman
Kellie Yamane of Aiea, Hawai'i/I'olani moved into a tie for 10th with her outstanding round of 4-over 76 on the day for a 12-over 156. Senior
Cameron Kaneshiro of Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Baptist Academy carded an 83 on Tuesday for a 171, while freshman
Clarissa Burhan of Las Vegas, Nev./Clark added an 84 for a 168 and freshman
Kaila Bonawitz of Vancouver, Wash./Mountain View turned in an 85 for a total of 175.
Dominican moved into the lead with a tournament best 305 on Tuesday to hold a one stroke advantage at 618. Biola is second at 619, with Holy Names three strokes back at 621.
The final round of the championships is set for Wednesday at Wigwam. Tee times start at 4 a.m. HST (7 a.m. MST). Landt will tee off at 4:48 a.m. HST (7:48 a.m. MST).
