INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Hawai'i Pacific University men and women were once again ranked at the top of the NCAA Division II West Region Rankings released today by the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Tennis Committee.
Despite falling in the PacWest Conference Championship matches, both the Sharks men and women had such strong schedules and results that they stayed at the top of the regional rankings.
On the men's side, the Sharks (16-2 overall and Division II, 10-2 in West Region) lead Azusa Pacific (15-3 DII, 14-2 Region), Biola (12-7 DII, 11-7 Region), Hawai 'I Hilo (9-9 DII, 9-6 Region) and Metro State Denver (11-5 DII, 10-4 Region).
As for the women, the Sharks (15-8 overall, 14-4 DII, 11-2 Region) are on top of Azusa Pacific (18-4 DII, 16-3 Region), Fresno Pacific (13-7, 13-7), Point Loma (14-5, 13-5), Biola (18-6, 16-6) and Academy of Art (9-7, 9-7).
The NCAA uses the regional rankings to determine the participants in the Division II Championships. This is the final ranking prior to the Championship announcement on May 3. The top four teams in the West region start with regional competition with the women on May 6 and the men on May 9.
